Aim of Playard

Playard aims to connect like-minded individuals around gamified casual sports by matching them based on a variety of factors.

The goal of this project is to gather insights and networking behaviours from the target demographic to design a mobile application.

User Research

User Interview

Before we started to solve the problem, it was imperative that we correctly identified the accurate problems to solve. Therefore, our team prepared a set of questions that would help us understand the user pain points and frustration. Next, I conducted user interviews with active recreational sport players to understand their pain points and frustration when orgainsing games

Synthesising Research

With all the data collected, it was time to sythesise the  research data points to curate problems that would eliminate the biggest and the most common pain points faced by the users.

Results From Research

Using the data that is synthesised from the research, we came up with key insights, personas and problem statment.

Key Insights

12/15

are willing to keep in contact with someone if the overall play experience was good

11/15

find it difficult to arrange for a session with friends due to schedule & location differences

9/15

find hosting to be troublesome

9/15

want to know how skilled a player is before deciding to join a game

Personas

Problem
Statement

Sports enthusiasts have difficulty engaging in sports activities with others due to an inefficient and tedious process of finding suitable players and having a sufficient number of players for the activity.

Ideation

We went through multiple iterations of sketches and came up with our first prototype which is ready for us to be tested.

Usablity Tesing

Methodology

Purpose

To observe user’s journey in determining a suitable activity to join based on their preferences, as well as transferring an activity slot to someone else.

Logistics
  • 2 rounds of testing
  • Remote, moderated testing via Zoom

Participants

  • 5 unique participants per round
  •  Age range from 23 to 28

Metrics

No errors for each task

Tasks

1. Find a specific activity

2. Check out a player’s review

5. Join a specific activity

4. Transfer a slot

5. Find a specific lobby

Results from Usability testing

Issue 1

5/5 users have difficulty searching for a specific lobby

Analysis

  • The visual design of the search bar was too faint and not noticeable
  • The lobby code was too small
  • ‘Location’ filter was generic and caused confusion with ‘lobby’ which could be interpreted as a type of location

Before

Changes based on Issue 1

Changes Made
  • Increased the contrast between search bar and page background for better visibility
  • Redesigned the lobby code in the card for users to easily discover and learn what lobby meant
  • Change filter label from ‘location to ‘Region’

After

Issue 2

2/5 users interpreted ‘Upcoming Activities’ on the home screen to be new activities that are coming soon, but not their own upcoming activities

Reasons for failure

  • The copy was not personalised to the users

Before

Changes based on Issue 2

Changes made

  •  Edited the copy to ‘Your Upcoming Activities’ so that it is clearer for users to know they signed up for those activities

After

Issue 3

2/5 users expected to see upcoming and past activities separately

Analysis

  • It could be difficult for users to find a particular activity if past and upcoming activities are housed together one on tab

Before

Changes based on Issue 3

Changes Made
  • Displayed past and upcoming activities in separate collaposible sections

After

Final Prototype

This is the final prototype with all the feedbacks considered.
